Doctor William F. Groff is a board certified dermatologist at Cosmetic Laser Dermatology. Dr. Groff specializes in Botox injection procedures. Botox is uses to prevent wrinkles and deep lines, such as frown lines, from forming on the face and to reduce the appearance of existing lines.
As skin is repeatedly folded and wrinkled through muscle movement, such as creases in the forehead from frowning or around the mouth from smiling, lines can become permanently etched in the skin. Botox works by relaxing the muscles of the face, preventing excess movement that can cause permanent lines.
Dr. Groff begins the procedure by having the patient deliberately make the facial expressions that cause permanent lines. He then marks a series of injection points in the affected area. "[The procedure] is very quick and, essentially, painless," he says.
Many patients begin to see noticeable effects in as little as 24 hours. However, for most, it takes a couple of days to really see the muscles relax and lines soften. Botox injections last, on average, about four months. Patients can expect to see continued improvement (reduction in fine-lines and wrinkles) throughout that time period. Best of all, Botox procedures result in no downtime; patients can leave the office and immediately resume normal activities.
